Per percepire e capire qualsiasi cosa abbiamo bisogno di un “paio”. Senza ‘due’ non c’è logica. Che sia vita e morte, che sia luce e oscurità, che sia uno e zero, che sia giorno e notte, che sia suono e silenzio; sono elementi connessi tra loro in modo fondamentale. Senza uno l’altro non esiste. Da questa dualità emerge tutta la realtà che percepiamo e comprendiamo.
Anche la nostra individualità emerge dall’accoppiamento di due energie e si estende come quella di un albero, di un ramo, di una foglia, di un seme. Maschile e Femminile, Yin e Yang, Shiva e Shakti, al di là della chimica, dell’esser uomo ed esser donna, sono le energie primordiali che partoriscono il momento presente e lo ricevono da dentro di noi. Siamo fatti di femminilità, di psicologia, sensibilità, riflessione, ispirazione, e siamo fatti di mascolinità, di fisicità, di attività, di determinazione, di aspirazione. Lasciamo andare e resistiamo, siamo statici e siamo dinamici, conserviamo e rinnoviamo. Appaiono opposti, ma sono complementari. Questi aspetti del nostro essere sorreggono il ponte attraverso cui noi percepiamo, comprendiamo e creiamo il mondo.
Se si vuol avere esperienza dell’armonia nella vita, l’equilibrio tra le parti dev’essere compreso ed onorato. Come succede con le nostre case ed i nostri templi, l’equilibrio tra maschile e femminile trasforma le rocce in un luogo sacro. Se vogliamo sentirci a casa e godere nel viverci, non importa come e di cos’è fatta, dobbiamo riconoscere la loro equa significatività; senza la forza che rompe le rocce e costruisce le mura non vi è casa – senza la sensibilità di trasformare lo spazio in ambiente e atmosfera, nessuno ci vive volentieri. E non è forse questo il punto?
La terra può essere approcciata nello stesso modo: ne si prende e ne si fa poichè ci è naturalmente offerto, e ce ne si cura. E' la base della nostra esistenza come specie di questo pianeta. La società è lo stesso, compresa singolarmente come l’insieme di più parti; opera dal maschile, si orienta verso la sopravvivenza e la funzionalità, e opera dal femminile, verso l'æstetica e la creatività. Sappiamo cosa succede quando valori maschili dominano su quelli femminili – l’elevazione dell’economia sopra ogni cosa per esempio, finisce col reprimere la libertà, la bellezza, la spiritualità, l’arte ed il benessere di tutti.
Un disequilibrio alla base – sarebbe il caso qualora al maschile e al femminile venissero riconosciuti valori quantitativamente diversi, - sia dentro di noi che fuori, può essere solo la conseguenza di una mancanza di consapevolezza e comprensione nei confronti della natura e della vita stessa. I ‘due’ sono ugualmente fondamentali e non sono naturalmente in conflitto, solo nella mente ciò può accadere sfociando in comportamenti e tendenze disarmoniche che solo una presa di coscienza può riequilibrare.
Questo dipinto richiama quindi la nostra responsabilità personale a sollevare il velo della separazione e vedere complementarità prima di opposizione, a concentrarci su ciò che ci unisce rispetto a ciò che ci allontana, ad amare invece che temere. Ad onorare tutti gli aspetti che danno vita a tutta l'esistenza e la nostra. Che possa ricordare ad avvicinarci consapevolmente e con rispetto, e permettere a questi due elementi a noi intrinseci di esprimersi ed essere ciò che sono senza repressione di una o dell'altro. Via il ‘dominio’ tra maschile e femminile dalla nostra mente e da ogni relazione: l'armonia è consapevolezza, integrazione ed equilibrio.

Natural Harmony

To perceive and understand anything we need a ‘pair’. Without 'two' there is no logic. May it be life and death, may it be dark and light, may it be one and zero, may it be silence and sound, may it be day and night; they are fundamentally related to one another. Without one there's no other. Out of this duality reality emerges. All that we perceive and understand. Including you. Including me.
Even our individuality emerges from the union of 'paired' energies and extends out like the one of a tree, of a branch, of a leaf, of a seed. Masculine and feminine, beyond chemistry, beyond womanhood and manhood, are the same primordial energies that birth the moment and also receive the moment, from within us. We are made of feminine, psychological, sensitive, reflective, nurturing, inspiring self, and we are made of masculine, physical, active, driven, aspiring self. We let go and we resist, we are static and we are dynamic, we conserve and we renew. These aspects of our being hold up the bridge out of which we perceive, understand and create the world.
If harmony wants to be experienced, an equilibrium between the two is to be consciously recognized and honored by allowing each part the freedom to be and express. Just like with our houses and our temples, the equilibrium between masculine and feminine turns stones into sacred spaces. If we want to feel home and enjoy living in it, no matter how and what it's made of, we need to recognize their equal significance; without the force that breaks rocks and builds the walls there’s no house – without sensitivity that transforms a space into a home and an environement that hosts life, nobody enjoys living there. And isn't it the point?
Earth can be approached the same way: we take and we make out of our planet, and we take good care of it. It is the basis of our exsistence as a species here. Our society is the same, understood singularly as the encompassing of more parts. It operates as masculine, oriented towards survival and functionality, and operates as feminine, towards aesthetics and creativity. We know what happens when masculine values dominate the feminine – the rising of economics above everything else for example, represses freedom, beauty, spirituality, the arts and the wellbeing of all.
A disequilibrium at the basis – as the case would be if masculine and feminine were to be valued differently, - whether within ourselves or without, can only be the consequence of misunderstanding our nature and the one of life itself. The two are equally fundamental and they are not naturally in conflict; only in the mind that can happen resulting in unnatural behaviors and habits that only awareness can re-equilibrate.
And so, this piece is a call to personal responsibility to lift the veil of separation and see complementarity before opposition, to focus on were we unite rather than on what keeps us apart, to love instead of fear. To honor each part that gives life to all existence and our own. May we come closer consciously and respectfully, and allow these two intrinsic elements of ours to express and be what they are, free from the imposition and repression of one or the other. Away "dominion" between masculine and feminine from our minds and from all relations: harmony is awareness, integration and balance.
